Why do I need a coach?

We are often asked, why do I need a coach? What will a coach bring to my training that information gathered myself can’t? The answer is simple, a coach brings accountability, reassurance and often, years of knowledge about a sport that you might not spot or know yourself.

The role of a coach is to get to know you first, learn about you as an athlete. Running is not a 1 size fits all sport and this is why coaches are important. Often we see groups being coached but the coach will know each athlete individually, their strengths and weaknesses, there background and goals and what it takes to get them running well. Once a coach gets to know an athlete, they can plan a bespoke training programme around all of the factors that make us different- Lifestyle, Job, Family, likes and dislikes, goals and long term ambitions.

Here’s what’s important- setting the training plan is easy, any coach who knows the sport can set a weekly, day to day block of running, where a coach earns their stripes is being able to adapt that training to manage injury, niggles, illness, setbacks, races and days where the athlete says “coach I’m feeling tired, what should I do”. That’s the true test of a good coach and the reason why anyone with a serious goal in the sport needs one!

So, if you are serious about getting the best out of yourself- drop us a message and we’ll do the rest. There’s no pressure, we are not sales people, just passionate runners ourselves with a love of the sport.
